Sunday 27 September 2020 – Mixed section friendly match at Cleethorpes

The first and last away match we have been able to play this season and again Cleethorpes werekeen the match could go ahead with suitable restrictions in place. We had 6 pairs signed up to play, for some it was their first time playing at Cleethorpes and we were all looking forward to the
match. The weather had turned very cold over the weekend but we wrapped up warm and had a good
close match, nip and tuck the whole way round with lots of banter All other pairs reported their
matches had been close and very enjoyable with good company. The overall score was 4/2 to
Cleethorpes. After the match everyone stayed for a lovely lunch and all enjoyed the hospitality extended to us, we look forward to welcoming the Cleethorpes team back to South Kyme next year.

Sunday 13 September 2020 – Mixed section friendly match with Gedney Hill.

Today the mixed section played our first home match of the season with our visitors Gedney Hill.
Earlier in the season it felt likely that we wouldn’t get any opportunities for friendlies but Gedney
Hill were keen and it seemed like a positive step forward to go ahead with the match. It was
necessary to limit the numbers of players to 6 pairs per team due to Covid restrictions and to
ensure social distancing in the club house.
It was a beautiful late summer day and 24 players took part and had good friendly matches. All
agreed the course was in great condition, the couple we played with were impressed at how good
the greens were, they had spent the previous week playing 5 different courses but felt ours were
the best they had played on this season. The catering team did us proud with a very nice roast dinner which we were all ready for. Alan & I had a very good match playing the ladies and gents captains and came away with a win having both played well on the day. The overall score was a win for Gedney Hill however it wasclose and judging by the banter in the clubhouse everyone seemed to have had a good time.

24 July 19

The match against Stoke Rochford was an away match and was played on July 14th 2019.

The day started out cool but improved later. Everyone loved the Stoke Rochford course and enjoyed the challenges it presented.

SKGC lost 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 despite the valiant wins by Len and Shirley, Alan and Joan and a draw by Paul and Sue.

The meal was excellent but slightly disrupted by the need to keep up with the World Cricket cup final progress. You can sit down now Bob.

24 May 19

We played against North Shore golf club at their course on May 12th 2019. Weather was good and the food and company were excellent. Unfortunately SKGC lost by 4 matches to 5 but congratulations to our winning teams, Paul and Gillian, Steve and Yvonne, Alan and Joan and  Paul and Sue.

13 April 19

The mixed section had another enjoyable weekend away at The Nottinghamshire golf club, just SE of Nottingham.

The weather was dry and sunny on both days although unfortunately the last three four balls  finished in the gloom because only late tee times were available. We played the Championship course first, in pairs, using a betterball Stableford format and the winners were Sue and Paul with a score of 44 points.

Dinner was served in a private room (with no bedrooms above!) and a pianist had also been arranged. A somewhat raucous singsong developed with some of the participants actually singing in tune.

The following day we played the Signature course, again in pairs, with the total Stableford score counting this time. Winners the time were Joan and Alan with a score of 66.

Many thanks to Dave and Myra for organising the event and making it such a success.
