Last Thursday there was a complaint about cutting in. I know the weather was poor but that doesn’t mean we let our standards drop. If you are playing 9 holes, play and leave if you decide to play 18 then do just that, cutting in on others that are playing 18 holes causes unnecessary problems and is to be honest quite rude. If you don’t like it the chances are those you are doing it to won’t either.
The Winter league will be back with us from 15th December, Remember that on Tuesdays play is always from the 1st TEE.
COURSE HANDICAPS FOR EACH TEE SET
To find your Course Handicap for each Tee Set, open the ClubV1 Members Hub app, scroll down to the ‘Your Golf’ section, select ‘Handicap Index’ then below your name select ‘Courses’.
This will then show all the SKGC tees and your course handicap for each one.
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that Geoff Brown has lost his fight with cancer and passed away at home on November 19th. Geoff joined us when Canwick Park closed and had been an active member of the Section until this year when his treatment left him unable to play.
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that our Club Past Captain and Senior’s Member Tony has lost his fight with Covid 19 and passed away during the night.
Tony’s wife has requested that the family’s privacy be respected at this sad time.
If you recognise this card, please email email@example.com with the owner’s name and I will include it in the Winter League Week 1 results.
WINTER LEAGUE RULES
The Winter League is played each Tuesday between the beginning of November and the end of February but may be extended into March to try to ensure that at least 14 rounds are played.
The competition is a Stableford played over 14 holes
(1, 2 & 7 to 18).
Each player’s best 10 scores will be added together to give their final Winter League score. If 14 rounds have not been played by the end of March then the 4 worst scores will be discounted from the number of rounds played to that date. (i.e. 13 played, 9 to count, 12 played 8 to count, 11 played 7 to count etc).
There is also an eclectic competition where your best gross score on each hole is added together to give your eclectic score.
Both the eclectic and the Winter League competitions will be split into Div 1 (0 to 19) and Div 2 (20 to 54) with your club handicap as of week 1 determining which Division you play in for the entire competition. Your starting playing handicap will be 14/18ths of your original CONGU playing handicap.
Handicaps will be adjusted after each round in the following way: Your handicap will be deducted .3 for each point you score over 28 points and .1 will be added to your handicap for a score of less than 28 points.
Irrespective of this at no time can anyone play off a handicap higher than 14/18ths of their initial handicap.
Prizes will be awarded to the overall Winter League winner, the top players in each Division and the winner of each Division in the eclectic competition. There will also be prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in each Division of the weekly rounds. All entry fees taken over the 4 months will be paid out in prizes. Historically prizes have been paid out to the top 6 to 8 people in each division. The entry fee will be £2 per week including a 50p 2s sweep. Due to the anticipated numbers expected to play each week there will not be the normal £2 entry fee this year.
PRIOR TO STARTING YOUR ROUND, PLEASE TAKE THE CORRECT ‘SENIORS WINTER LEAGUE’ SCORECARD – 0 TO 19 INITIAL HANDICAP DIV 1, 20 TO 54 INITIAL HANDICAP DIV 2. USING THE WRONG CARD MAY CAUSE YOUR SCORE TO BE OMITTED FROM PRIZE AWARDS.
AFTER PLAY PLEASE PLACE YOUR CARD IN THE SENIORS SECTION COMPETITION CARDS BOX WHICH WILL BE PLACED ON THE TABLE INSIDE THE CLUBHOUSE FOYER WHERE THE SCORECARDS ARE. THESE WILL THEN BE COLLECTED, AFTER A COVID-19 SPECIFIED TIME HAS ELAPSED, AND ACTIONED.
HANDICAP AND OTHER INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE NOTICE-BOARD ON THE FENCE/1st TEE SIDE OF THE HALFWAY HOUSE.
As with most golf clubs different sections have their own day or morning. We as the senior section at South Kyme have a Thursday as our seniors day. Tuesdays are a bonus day for us and within the club it is known that Tuesday is Ladies day. There had been a few problems in the past on Tuesdays with the odd complaint about slow play and during the last management meeting the Ladies conceded that they would play in 4 balls to try and avoid catching up with the last seniors group. This had been working for a few weeks but on Tuesday this week there were only 8 ladies playing the course but they still managed to catch up with the last seniors group. That isn’t the problem as long as groups play at a steady pace, however the last group of seniors were up to 3 holes behind the group in front so were quite clearly not playing at a steady pace, not just that but this group failed to let the ladies through. When I took over as captain I said I would if needed fight the battles along with the rest of the committee to support the section. It is obvious that on this occasion there is no battle to fight. We all have a responsibility to play with others in mind, it is frustrating to say the least that this problem continues to occur. Having spoken to Roger Mead and the CCTV having been reviewed the last group out on Tuesday took about 4 1/2 hours to play 18 holes! There are times when this is unavoidable and I accept that this complaint made by the ladies is not directed at all of the seniors, unfortunately when it comes to responsibility it is all of us that get tarred with the same brush. If this continues I would expect the ladies to dig their heels in and push to have the seniors golf on Tuesdays suspended. I am meeting with the lady captain and the chairman on Tuesday to discuss this and will update you all with the outcome. In the meantime please be responsible and maintain the etiquette of golf but above all be gentlemen.
